As the Province of British Columbia's lead organization charged with advancing innovation and commercialization, BCIC's main focus is to help competitively position British Columbia in the global science and technology community in order to create wealth in the economy.
Talent Development
Lead the development, recruitment and retention of science and technology professionals to meet the growing demand for individuals with the expertise and skills to grow our knowledge economy. Through scholarships and fellowships for innovative students, post-doctorates and faculty in British Columbia, collaboration among science and business students and technology companies, and attraction of high qualified international students and technology workers, we endeavor to meet the needs of the knowledge economy.
Innovation
Foster innovation and entrepreneurship in education and accelerate the growth of science and technology throughout the province at all levels in our schools and post-secondary institutions as well as in the private sector. BCIC supports science fairs and outreach in schools across British Columbia to encourage young people to pursue education and careers in science and technology. We work with British Columbia's research institutions, nine regional science and technology councils and experts from throughout the province to support the growth of our science and technology communities.
Commercialization
Drive innovation to commercial success through partnerships for economic growth by providing commercialization training and tools to students and technology professionals, new ventures and technology start-ups in British Columbia. We support the development and certification of business plans through the New Ventures BC competition and invest in proof of concept and prototype development. BCIC's sector experts are building critical mass in key areas of the provincial economy by creating new levels of collaboration among government, industry and academia.
